The Forensic Services and Coroner’s Complex (FSCC) was designed to revolutionize forensics in Canada. The state-of-the-art facility supports technological advances in forensics, as well as increasingly complicated investigations.
We provided full mechanical services, building controls, and fire protection systems for this 164,000 square foot complex. We worked collaboratively with all team members to successfully meet an aggressive 2.5-year construction schedule.
One of the challenges of this mechanical design was to properly accommodate a wide range of air handling needs due to the wide range of spaces in the building. The building, which includes five-stories and one underground floor, contains an expansive atrium, office space, a Containment Level 3 (CL3) lab, autopsy suites, soundproofed shooting ranges, vehicle examination bays, sound lab, courtrooms, jail cells, auditorium, freezers, cold storage, and private rooms for families of deceased.
We also designed and installed a three-zone fire protection wet system for this project, made of black steel.
The FSCC has been lauded as one of the world’s most sophisticated and advanced centres for the study and practice of Forensics.
